Question cleaning the intercooler.....

Mine is an '01 CC DRW. I'm getting ready to do the CCV. I started to wonder about oil in the intercooler, and decided to tap other brains on the best way to clean it out. Is is even necessary? The truck has 61,000 miles on it. This all started with the installation of a real deal Tymar. I found small puddles of oil. I know the CCV mod will fix that, but what about the intercooler?

You can try cleaning it, but you'll be lucky if you get more than a teaspoon of oil out of it.

Basically it's not worth the effort to try and clean it out, unless you just want to get rid of all the oil in the CAC system quickly.

What if you just run a water meth kit and inject it pre intercooler?

I'm thinking of doing that with my Dodge. I know the intercooler is filthy from sucking in oil from a KDP failure that I babied for 10,000 miles....

I was gonna do a water meth kit to clean out the intercooler, twin turbo piping and all that jazz.. Plus lower EGT's or more power depending on the mixture is a plus

Think it'll work?

To the OP - pop it out, fill it with simple green or something similar and let it sit over night. Drain it, flush it with tons of water, run compressed air through it and replace. You'll have all of the oil out of the system and the boots will remain cleaner for much longer.

Water doesn't break down oil or remove it.

thanx for the feedback, guys. I think I'll just replace the boots and see what happens. Unless a friend comes through with the free 6.0 cooler. He's going with a Banks and said I could just have it!

If you have an early 01 with aluminum end tanks, skip the 6.0 cooler and sell it. If you have plastic end tanks then do the swap it won't matter.
