If they are completely full it works. We put them on the front of a street truck and ran them a 70mph and couldn't tell anything different. Ran them on a puller with a 40ish MPh final with no problems. You just have to take 600 or so pound of weight box so we did away with it.

Mark, I really don't care what profession he's in....He brought it up. I just said that if he needs to add "ballast" to the front of his truck towing, that he has a lot to learn....I guess if you disagree with that as well, then I guess the statement holds true.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but people like this kid bring down the greatest forum for diesel sports that I have been a part of, or that I know exists...anyone can ask a question if they would like to know answers and opinions...but if they ask that question knowing full well that they know more than the people answering, then I have no use for that person. It's happened around here a lot lately.


I'm not saying I'm God's gift to anything, my profession included, I'm far from it...but neither is this kidd....

I'll admit, I've laughed at this thread. New guy a little quick to get wound up. If he meant adding weight to the front for more traction in the field, plausible, but if he's talking about adding weight for hauling on the road, yeah probably not the best idea.

Still, even in the field?? The trailer should transfer weight to the front of the truck....I know my truck doesn't shoot the moon loaded...maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Oh I don't mean it definitely useful, just sorta along the line of thinking that some tractors needs some extra weight up front on occasion, it possible that a "field use" truck could benefit. It would admittedly have to be a poorly balanced load, but still possible I suppose, like winning the lottery!

Quick detour on tractors, seen an orange duetz the other day, was told that was when the merged, had a full rack of weights on the front! That something that interest you guys? Not sure if it's for sale, but will be calling the guy about something else, could ask for more info for you.

Depends what it is...The very last Allis Chalmers tractors had Deutz-Allis badges, then once AGCO bought them they went back to Orange with Deutz-Allis badges.

See what it is either way.

I apologize to Sig600, I took offense at his calling me Bud, and I shouldnt have. When I mentioned adding ballast I was thinking of a couple weeks prior when I went to the neighbors to bring home his 20ton SpreadALL manure spreader and our 16ton SpreadALL spreader. These are designed to be hitched to a tractor drawbar. So the put a lot of weight even empty on the backend of your pickup.

On that subject, I've wanted to build a delivery truck that has a 8' bed, but shove the axle back so the tires are about 1" from the bumper. You'd have to do 4 link/trailing arm/ect suspension to get it back that far, but it would shorten the center of axle to hitch pin length by 12-18 inches. The difference in handling drawbar pulled equipment would be unbelievable.

We just use an FL80 with about 5 ton of concrete block on the bed. Air ride truck holds up whatever you hook to, and you have enough truck to stop whatever you're pulling.


Your idea would be killer for most things as well, just we don't have much time to work on our own stuff, so we make things work as we need.

None in most cases, I suppose it depends on what its going in and how the motor mounts are setup. We just had a 92 f-250 truck leave our shop with an industrial 5.9 with 4 speed Allison behind it. Fit rather nice, the trans selection leaves something to be desired though.
