1/2 Ton 24v Swap/build

Ill go with the short version on a lot of this. Basically, bought big ugly black truck for the drivetrain. Got it running. Ran pretty good. Wanted something lighter/quicker/smaller as I dont pull anything but 1 race car on an open trailer. Bought ugly easter egg green/teal 1/2ton truck. In process of doing the swap. I have the build on a local forum, but I figured you guys may appreciate it and have some input for me along the way. Buying the 1ton truck was the first time I had seen a cummins motor in person. I jumped in head first and have learned a lot over the past year or so and still have much more to learn. I dont have the fab skills that some members have on here so this will seem pretty basic to you guys. The goal of this truck is not to turn an outstanding 1/4mile time, but simply to have a streetable truck that may run down a few folks on the interstate. On to the pics.

24v block with Mahle pistons, 12v rods and stock crank w/ ARP hardware.
Head is fire ringed
Colt stage 4 cam and tappets with valve springs, retainers, etc etc.
ARP head studs
Current pump is 12mm benched at 500cc by Scheid
S364 over S480, dps 3 piece manifold
Airdog 200
7x014 injectors
nv5600 6spd
Southbend twin disc clutch

In the last year or so I have replaced the head gasket, swapped injection pumps, injectors, fixed oil leaks etc etc.

Sold the black truck pictured as a roller. Picked up the fine teal green machine as a fully functioning truck. Sold the gas motor/trans out of it over thanksgiving weekend. Now I am collecting parts to continue the swap.

When I brought it home (from Pendleton, IN)

Back together with the old pump setup.

Started it up after install. LOTS of white smoke. Turns out the injectors were 7x022s instead of 7x016s which is what the PO told me. Pulled them and swapped to J&L Machine 7x014s. Less smoke but still plenty of fuel.

Drove it to cars and coffee.

Then decided it wasnt fast enough and probably wasnt running right. Tear down for new pump, and to fix an enormous oil leak. Leaked about 2qts in 350ish miles. Had to take the cam completely out to replace the seal between the gear housing and the block. Longest camshaft ever. Verified Colt stg 4 cam. Proceeded to install it correctly. PO had the cam shaft off one tooth.

Decided to go with another color change.

A friend of mine was "supervising" the work being done in my shop one night, bud light in hand, said "I bet you wont paint the intercooler like an american flag." So I did.

All was good until this happened. 5th gear pull at WOT.... It actually knocked the paint off the outside of the hood.

Removed most of the interior because I would like to go back with 3rd gen seats and the carpet was nasty. I also had to cut a hole for the shifter.

I think the compressor housings need to be a different color other than red. They are flat black ceramic coated underneath which would look pretty cool. I was thinking either teal like the truck, or flat black/gun metal so they blend in more. Also the valve cover will not be white. That was a mistake on a leaky diesel motor.

Looks like you should have snap clips for those compressor housings. HAHA looks good though! I Would like to have a 1500 chassis like that.

Thanks guys. Ill be putting the front cover on this weekend and received new power steering/hydroboost lines from borgeson.

Ill be looking at running an Aeromotive fuel regulator as well to keep constant pressure at the Ppump.

Looking to make some good progress this weekend.

Cool build. Although I was sad to see a P-pumped 24v 2wd dually sacrificed. But I am biased.
