Rods need machined with arps

Do most end up needing to machine 12v rods when they add arp rod bolts. I have a budget project truck that is getting an In frame. I will be pulling and installing rods in same day and have no time to send them to get machined.

The (1) set of ARP rod bolts I have installed did not require machining as rod bearing clearance remained correct with the upgraded fasteners.

The set I had required machining, the arp bolts changed clearance by .002.

You should check them or have them checked. If the bore doesn't move, you could just install them. If it does they need to be machined. You also need to check them with a bore gage, not a caliper.

Well now that's not what I was hoping for. Any more experience? This engine ran fine when disassembles

I know how to check them ect. Build engines for a living. Just never messed with these. I guess I can get my set of spare rods checked with them and possible machined. Just figured for 100 bucks, it's worth trying to get good rod bolts. Just want very minimal money into the engine while still being able to hold a lot of power

Don't we all? But seriously, I'm glad this came up, I was about to ask the same thing in a day or two when mine show up.

Haha it's true. To be honest , this is a spare truck I picked up because it was to good of a deal. Don't want to have a lot goes up in it if I choose to flip it
