Valve Bodies

Obviously I am no tranny expert, but what is the actual difference between a name brand VB verses just throwing in a Transgo Shift Kit?

I hear the name brand companies "flow" their VBs.

Is their any risk in mis-matching the brand of converter and VB?

Subscribed.

One thing I do know is most if not all of the name brand companies cut the VB to where it circulates fluid in park.

Build your own trans and buy the VB from Goerend. The phone support and knowledge he has is worth it, plus you get a great VB.

Some builders also machine the surfaces flat as to get best possible seal to plate... I have a transgo kit instruction sheet with Dave G' personal setup notes on it some where's in my tool box...

Dan that's what I hear as well, also that I should use his converter as they are matched. Only problem is I already have a transtar S5 converter which is their biggest and baddest converter.

Bigblk could you pm me that info? I sure would appreciate it.

Transgo kits come with a specific set of springs & valves... I would go so far as to say that a transmission company with some age to it would offer more 'specific' parts such as valves, springs, separator plates, and valve body modifications.

I was told by Goerend today, that one of the main differences in their VBs is they hold more pressure in your lower gears, compaired to a shift kit.

You don't say. That's what constant pressure means isn't it?

Why would you think you think you have to match vb with converter?

I have an ats converter with a Morrison vb. Everything works as it should.

Stall speed is based on HP/TQ range and the amount of it.

I was told, there are several ways to accomplish desired stall speed. Some may say -400 stall but only get -200, that will effect how the VB does its job. When they are matched, you are 100% on how everything will work once it is in the truck, and everything is on the same page.

This could be complete BS, but it makes sense to me.
