47re intermediate

I know its a loaded question and every situation is different but what power will a stock intermediate hold?

Truck will be a sled puller/weekend driver. Hoping for 800hp on 285 duals. Are we flirting with disaster? What other parts can a broken intermediate damage?

I would recommend you do a billet intermediate. I was told by Dave Goerend that anything over 500hp he recommends them IIRC. I've heard of them breaking with less than that though. I think it really depends on the driving scenario when they usually break. Mir can cause all sorts of trans damage if it breaks because it supports some of the planetaries/drums. Others get lucky and encounter no damage such as in A Hales build thread. He broke his shifting to second locked at the Dragway IIRC. I didn't do mine when I got my trans and wish I had. I have it now as well as a new converter to swap out. Just go with the peace of mind and do it. Just my .02

I think you will get away with the stock shaft on the pull track but doing some high rpm/boost launches on the street will be the hardest. I ran my street truck 7.8-7.9 1/8 mile about 20 times before the stock intermediate snapped. Luckily it decided to let go at a road near the house instead of at the track. If you have the extra cash I would change it now. My intermediate took some parts out with it.

Been fine with stock intermediate so far running mid 11's at 7400lbs and sled pulling.

Other truck has been fine at 600+hp with 200+ 1/4 mile passes at 7000lbs.

Not saying its not a good idea to go with a billet intermediate if you can afford it, but the stock ones will handle quite a bit.

Truck went 11 hooks this summer at 600hp on some hooking tracks. I guess after spending all the money I did today for the truck, the stock intermediate will be staying in it.

Keep the stock intermediate, I've broke billet input shafts before the intermediate broke. And when the stock intermediate breaks it snaps off clean usually not causing and other damage. The billet shaft will twist till it breaks and usually causes more damage to other hard parts. I've broke 2 billet inputs and only one stock intermediate in 2 seasons of racing.
