Piston Tapering

I am wondering if this is something I should pursue before I build my short block. 96 12v p pumped engine going in a 2.5 puller. Mahle# 930036535 pistons

I had the machine shop set the PTW at .0065, which is the loose end of mahles specs.

After doing more and more research this seems a little tight? These pistons already have a taper that is visible to the eye. I have a machine shop at work, and can easily taper them. Does anyone have any specs on how much to taper and such?

The truck is strictly a puller.

Thanks for any input!

The Mahle factory taper is just fine. But I would definitely open up the top ring gap to at least 030" and PTW at least 008"

Do Mahle taper the pistons more than factory cummins?

And when someone says tapered piston is where does the taper begin?
