DIY Coolant Bypass Question

Starting to develop a leak at my rear freeze plug so I'm going to go ahead and rig up a bypass using a 50psi Aquatrol relief valve and stainless braided hose with AN fitting.

I will definately be purchasing a block off plate, but I would like to know your opinions regarding the following options:

1) solid plate in the back, and use the 5/6 freeze plug for the bypass, or
2) threaded plate, and use the rear freeze plug port for the bypass.

I'm thinking option 1 will be an easier install with the engine still in the truck, but I don't know if the 5/6 plug bypass setup will hold for the long run. I'm also not sure how easy it would be to get that rear freeze plug out, but if it's worth it I'm not opposed to trying it. Let me know what yall think.

With the block off plates you don't use a freeze plug. It's a machined piece that is cut with an oring to seal. Can get them solid or with a threaded hole for fittings.

So it sounds like either way I have to knock out the old freeze plug. I'll just run the bypass out of that rear plug then. Thanks!

Did you get the idea from another thread on here? I am considering doing option 1 myself, from 5/6 port straight to the thermostat housing with a 40psi valve.

If that is the valve that I am thinking of, then in my opinion it doesnt flow enough or its too high of pressure. I pushed out a freeze plug with that valve installed as a bypass.

I used an adjustable valve. Stuck a gauge on it to see what's happening, but I just keep it closed driving around. B&b makes a good block off plate, toolman on here.
