2009 turbo vs 2013 turbo

I'm wondering if there is any difference in the vgt he351 that comes on a 2009 6.7 and the he351 that comes on my 2013 6.7. Mines going out and shopping for a replacement and have found a good deal on one off a 2009 but I've been told tgere is a difference

Every third gen 6.7 I’ve ordered a turbo for from Cummins, they send the same turbo as what is on a 2015. They may have been different from the factory but it seems they have superseded to the same.

Ok so my question is can I use a 2009 6.7 turbo on my 2013? The only thing I've been told may be different is the ends on the electrical connector which is just a quick splice and snip job since the Turbo actuators themselves seen the same. The difference is one actuator is wired through the case the other one has a pigtail plug at the case from what I can tell.

The actuators are different. Internally, externally, and the connector is different. However, cummins sells an adapter harness for the newer style actuators for the older trucks as that is all they sell now. Internally the turbo is slightly different. Twin piston rings on the exhaust side of the newer units to aid in oil control and keeping exhaust out of the bearing housing. The backing plate was redesigned as well. Will it mean much to You? No. For the most part. You will have to utilize the newer style actuator if you intend to use the older style turbo. The sector shaft is slightly different and sometimes can interfere with actuator installation when using a newer style turbo with an old style actuator but in your case you are fine as the newer actuators retrofit fine to the older turbos. The other difference is a pair of filters on the backside of the nozzle assembly but that shouldn't be a big issue as those oftentimes become more of a problem than a help.
