94-98 12V CPS Voltage

What is the purpose of the pull up resistor in this circuit? Curious is all.

What is Hall Effect and How Hall Effect Sensors Work - YouTube

I "think" it is so you have a clean 0 to +12v signal. A electrical guru would be better at explaining it.

A true statement if everyone who read my original post is as closed minded to accuracy and as adverse to learning something new as you seem to be.

Okay, you won or whatever or something. Good job, move on. *bdh*

I am not sure if the +12v will work. I am scared to try it and fry a $100 sensor. I tried hooking up +12v to a 94/95 +8v sensor and it didn't work but the sensor could have been bad in the first place. I am not sure the extra voltage would kill it.

From the research I've done on this, guys have been using 12 volts on them for a while. Now, with which CPS, I'm not sure. This is where I first saw the info years back. I helped wire a friend's conversion and his worked with 12 volts. I'm not sure of the year of the sensor because I robbed one from one of my core engines and we stuck it on his p-pumped 24v in his chevy. He sold it a while back so I don't know how it did after that. He did daily drive it for 2 years and the tach never failed while he had it.

how to get your tach to work with the stock 12 valve CPS (crank position sensor))

Thanks DieselWrencher. That is the write up I used. When I tried it on my '97 before I pulled the motor, I just used the ECM to power the sensor (+5v) but I didn't think about it at the time. Maybe I'll just try it with +12v and see what happens since it worked for you. Did you use a 1k Ohm resistor? Did you add any more notches in the balancer?

I did use a 1k ohm resistor, and I didn't add any notches to the balancer. We set the tach to 4cyl. I have some resistors left and if you want I'll send you a couple.

Appreciate the offer but I got some here. I might just try the 12v and be done with it.

Thanks DieselWrencher, I got brave and just used 12v and it works fine with the 96-98 CPS.
