Converting 12 valve crank sensor to tach signal

Has anyone been able to comvert the factory 12 valave crank sensor into a tach pickup for an aftermarket tach?

You cand do it with HEI module, but I would use Dacota Digital tach sensor kit mounted to flywheel

Is there info somewhere on using an hei module?

Planning on swapping a 12v into an older gm product, but im not sold on the alternator driven tach setup from autometer

I think any square wave style tach should read off the dampener.

Thanks!! The pic in that thread using the balancer bolts for a pickup.....does anyone know who makes that pickup? I couldnt seem to find it on a google search
