The Hayes single cylinder diesel motorbike running at 7500rpm has inspired me to try getting that speed out of the Nissan HR12Dxx found in the Micra and their other econocars. Anyone beside me interested in this kind of project?

There are 9000 rpm diesels.

But that Hayes engine is used in NATO motorcycle , it is ore-chamber diesel.
