Need your opinon on a 2015 cummins vs powerstroke.

So as the title says I'm finally ready to get a newer truck. The current truck is an E99 7.3L Powerstroke with 350,000 miles on it...

the 2 trucks I'm going back and forth on are as follows. Both are clean and run well and I can't see any obvious problems. I've checked for exhaust color, excessive blowby using the oil cap, things like that...

2015 Ford F-350 SRW XLT
6.7L V8 DI 32V OHV Diesel
Torqshift 6-speed automatic
112,434 miles
$33,800

2015 Ram 2500 Big Horn
6.7 Cummins Diesel
Aisin Automatic Transmission
138,000
$34,000

I don't care about the 350 vs the 2500, and the miles are close enough. As far as I am concerned they are pretty much a wash as far as specs and price...

I'm mainly curious if you guys know of anything about either one of these trucks that is bad, similar to the early 6.0 Powerstroke having issues... Or is it mainly whatever truck I like better looks and ride wise and everything else is pretty even.

I just don't want to choose one over the other and then find out that that particular truck has injector issues or something...

thanks in advance.

Ford all day long. Transmission characteristics are horrible in the ram. On this board everyone poo poos Ford but the only guys that like the aison are the ones that are ok with dodge transmissions (aka to proud to acknowledge the Ford transmissions are superior technology)

Also, the power band in the Ford is much more drivable and useful. May take a fuel economy hit against the ram though.

If your removing certian filters, much more of a power opportunity with the ford, and the trans can handle it without blinking. Not the case on the ram....

There are two things where the Ram has a big advantage, especially if you're going to be towing a lot.

1- The Cummins exhaust brake does 3 times as much as the Powerstroke one. It took a while of owning my 6.7 PS before I was able to definitively tell if the exhaust brake was even working or not whereas the Ram I had there was no question. It would nearly toss you into the windshield when it downshifted and exhaust braked.

2- The Ram has a much tighter steering radius. I don't know how much, but I do know when I traded in my 2014 4dr long bed Ram for a 4dr longbed 2019 Ford I had to relearn how to park in my driveway because of the difference in steering.

I'd say as far as the transmissions go, don't drive like a teenager and you'll be fine either way.

Ford, I’ve owned 2 (2011-2017) and a friend has also (2011-2018) and neither have done anything but change oil in either ever. I traded my 11 with 130k and he traded his with 150k. He replaced a few brake calipers but mine needed nothing. Both were tuned adding 150hp from day one, same with the new ones. Done with less than 300 mi and power settings have never changed since even towing, transmission is a champ.

Dealership used to sell both and dumped Dodge 2yrs ago. Said they lost $50,000 doing it and it was the best $50k they ever lost. Showed me the stack of warranty claim paperwork for both brands and it wasn’t even close.

I’m waiting for some genius to suggest buying some GM scrap instead. That’ll get the water boiling.

I'd rather buy a pre-dpf truck. Plus when they put the hardcore emissions on the looks just went downhill. And they depreciate much much quicker than the older trucks.

I’m a dodge guy, but. Wifey has a 13 f350 she bought when it was one year old. Other than routine maintenance it’s been trouble free. At this point either brand wouldn’t bother me. If ford would’ve offered a manual trans I would’ve been game to try one.

I'll bite out of curiosity, why stay away from GM? Just certain years?

And actually being able to hear while using the phone, and not having to shut the noisy rattle trap off in the drivethru, cooled seats, heated steering wheel, auto down/up windows, 600+HP and never touching the transmission or engine........

either is a great platform. Ford Trans is Stronger, the ford will have Emissions issues and coolant leaks and is definitely a more complex platform, 2 cooling systems, vacuum pump oil leaks, cp4 failures Which are Rare IMO.... The cummins is of course Simple, but still has its own issues, Emissions, turbo failures and trans probs....

It’s not really about the trucks; it’s the owners. I hate talking to (some, not all) “Chevy people”. They never seem to have anything worthwhile to add to a debate other than “My pa always drove Chevys so I’ll only own a Chevy so they must be the best”. When people ask what I like I tell them that I’m not pro Ford or pro Dodge, I’m anti Chevy. I just do it to poke the bear, it’s all a needless moneypit. Buy what you like, just don’t try to tell me how it’s better than mine because I don’t care. I’ve bought plenty of complete pieces of trash just because I thought they were interesting. Ask me about my Cadillac Cimarron sometime.

To my knowledge the Aisin AS69RC transmission has only ever been available in the Ram 3500 paired with the HO Cummins.

Ram 2500 Cummins only get the 68RFE transmission.

Was the 2500 a typo and you meant 3500? Or was Aisin a mistake?
