2.5 suspension help

We are building the truck to run 2.5. Trying to follow cotpc rules so we can hook with them when the pulls are close.

Truck is an 01 ext. Cab long bed dually auto

Per cotpc rules, are they allowing solid suspension?(not requiring 1" of movement) Am I reading that correct? If so, is it best to have links on inside of axle or closer to outside.

What kind of hitches are they allowing? Reese style I'm assuming but what can or can't I do for bracing?

What's everyone doing for front suspension? Our leveling kit will come off. Should I add anything else?

How is everyone hanging front weights? We have a bracket but I need ideas of how to get it on the frame without damaging the frame.

Thanks guys!

You could add an extra leaf or two the rear leaf spring pack. Build your blocks so the they are tight between the axle and frame. I built blocks that replace the stock rubber bump stops. Receiver hitch can be slid in, so your hitch is just behind the box. Replace bumper with roll pan. Definitely remove leveling spacers. As for weights, can you run a weight bracket or does weight need to stay behind the front bumper or in the bed?

They allow hanging weight but no weight boxes.

Rear bumpers aren't required so its coming off totally. Roll pan may come in the future but no plans as of now.

Other than cosmetic, the roll pan isn't a big deal. As far as a weight bracket goes, look at 3rd gen trucks with snow plows to see how they mount the brackets. At the top of the sled pulling forum, there is a bunch of pics in the weight bracket heading. You could mount some long receiver hitch tubing to the frame, so you could pull a couple puns and remove the weight bracket, if you want it removed.

Clamp the springs if you are allowed.

The springs slide against one another. If you clamp them together, they can't slide. Which makes the truck darn near a solid suspension.

There are other tricks that can be done. Spend some time looking at the suspension and you can see.

Make rear completely solid. Everything must be bolted and removable. Hang front weights off weight rack that slides into 2" receivers welded to frame, brace accordingly. Hitch cross tube and receiver must be toward rear of frame, not necessarily stock location.. Hooking point specific dimensions are posted in rules. Don't reinvent the wheel with the hitch. Move it up and forward some and call it good. Strengthen frame to prevent flex behind solid suspension. Short traction bars help hook, at least the did for me. Weld axle tubes to pumpkin. Turn up the HP!

We will be low on the HP level for any cotpc hooks but will be giving it all we can. I always thought that suspension had to have 1" of travel but after reading rules I had to ask. Axle tubes will be welded when the bed comes off soon. Now hopefully I can make this thing hook.

Can mounts and such be welded to the axles or does absolutely everything have to be bolted?

Pretty much as it sounds, you don't want the pumpkin and tubes to twist.

Mounts can be welded,as long as the vertical support can be removed. Mine is actually welded all solid with U bolts sucking the axle up and holding it in place against the stops.

Like stated, its an easily forgotten thing to do. The center section will twist in the axle tubes and its a pita to fix. Just good insurance.

Do any of you guys do any type of pre loading on your traction bars or just enough to be snug?
