The start of a race truck!!! Part one: tranny

'95 single cab 2500 2wd auto. Going to make it a race truck. Everything off of my '97 will be going on it. So, we are looking at around 600-650 hp. I know the first thing that needs to be done is tranny work.
Tranny was rebuilt not too long before i bought it but it is starting to go already with just pump mods and some ole 370's i had sitting around.

here is my list that I have down so far. Feel FREE TO ADD OR GIVE MY YOUR IDEAS ALSO.
1. Converter
2. Valve body
3. rebuild kit with alto reds and kolene steels
4. input shaft

give ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS.

Keep in mind this truck will have about 600-650hp right off the bat and probably close to 800-900 one day at about 5k+ rpms.

Thank Yall in advance.

Lance

add billet out put and you should do the intermediate if you plan on 800+ HP.

Intermediate Shaft for sure....don't worry about the output, extremely expensive and not needed. I'd do the billet front clutch drum and a good redline band or equivilant, make sure you get the billet shift lever, anchor and strap too. I'd think about about a flex-plate while you have it apart, atleast a laminated.

You'll need a mythical valvebody to shift that high. The heaviest spring that I've heard of is ~3800rpm.

You're gonna like this one... Nobody. There are companies that make one close enough that it works, but no one makes a decent, fully-tunable VB that will work 100% of the time.

One thing to consider is that you'll need to select parts from the same vendor before they'll honor warranties. (Then it's still a shot in the dark if they'll actually warranty it, but that's another subject). My point is that an automatic should be bought as a package so the expected outcome is reached. Consider this: if you're converter is slipping, is it the converter companies fault that the valve body didn't send it enough pressure? The VB company will blame the converter company and vice-versa.

Where are you located? You're best bet is to ride around in several brands of built trannys to figure out what's best for you.

Should be lots of Chris Strickland DTT's or MDW HotRodDiesel trannys running around there. There's a few HTS too. You're best bet is to hit a close diesel meet and start begging rides. I htink there's a dyno day somewhere close to there coming up in Jan.
