12-Rail

I tore into my dads truck 2 weeks ago to the day, here are some pictures of the progress. It is a 2005 4 door short bed auto, we purchased a used ATS select shift standalone to control the transmission. It has a recon tripple disk billet converter from phil and all the little billet pieces inside. Stock turbo for now mounted with an industrial manifold to retain the factory location intake and down pipe. Motor mounts were probably the easiest part of this entire project. I relocated the factory oil cooler to te frame and ran lines to it, im also using the factory engine fan, something about 500 dollar electric fans just isnt economical... There is a lot more I'm leavin out, so I'll just let the pictures do the talking

Cut off the factory return line and clamped some hose to it to retain the quick connection.

Oil cooler with hydraulic lines hooked up, no pics of it with the water lines installed

Factory turbo bolted to the down pipe easily, maybe a 1/4 to and 1/8 difference but not much.

Did a test fire today and it runs like a champ, all the gauges are working properly. Still have a few things left but the list is getting shorter every day.

Enjoy

Got the pcs wired in tonight, found out we have a tiny miss. Tomorrow is test drive day if every thing goes as planned.

My shop is crowded, also, the CR Is for sale for about 2k stripped down. WILL NOT part out, I'm already parting out two other motors. Those are enough!

Not a whole lot of progress today, got the power steering plumbed in and working, finished wiring the shut down solenoid so it starts and stops with the ignition. Filled the trans with 20 quarts.... put it in gear to see if the brakes would hold, they are working correctly. Now waiting on a 5 volt regulator to run my remote TPS, then it's game on!

End goal for this truck is 400hp while my dad owns it, when he gets tired of it I'm gonna buy it and then the real hot rod parts will be added

1/4 inch plate steel. Think of it this way, the back two bolts on the 12v are the front two on a Cr block. A 24 valve or 12 valve storm block will drop right in place cause they have a second set of bolt holes in the exact spot the Cr does.

Destroked. Works like a Champ and the factory fan clears the ton ring bolts by about an 1/8 of an inch with two .063 washers under each fan hub bolt.

Figured out the charging today, all the gauges are working properly, also only one diagnostic light on.

Thank you! I'm glad I have some approval! Although you might change your mind when you see the wiring! that part of it is just going to be ugly until I can get painless to build a harness. I tried real hard to retain a lot of factory components like the transmission lines and engine fan to keep it repair friendly. The serpentine belt is only 3" longer than a regular 12 valve belt and it fits almost perfect.

Nothing impressive to report, my "new" valve seals my dad installed are leaking like a sieve....

Little better pic of the engine bay, drove it a whopping 30 ft to the wash area and back to the shop. Lol

To get the AC working splice into Pin 41 on the C2 plug and tie in a small normally open pressure switch to the oil filter housing. When it sees pressure it will close and complete the ground and the computer will know the engine is running and engage the AC clutch. I had mine just grounded for a little while and for some reason it kicked the computers ass and the AC works without using this method, just posting this up for anyone that is having issues with a similar swap.

Small update: ya know how I figured out how use the factory engine fan with the 12 valve belt routing? Yeah there is one problem.... It spins the fan BACKWARDS since the grooved side of the belt is now driving the pulley instead of ye smooth backside! me and my dad are working out a solution to use the CR idler pulley to change the routing back to how it was run in the CR engine, minus the belt driven power steering.

Nothing major to report, spent a few days tuning the transmission and figured out that it has no lockup, even after the ECT shift trim and torque converter parameters were changed (ECT read -58 and would not allow lockup like that finally disabled that analog input and cut the sensing wire that I had wired Into the ECM earlier)

It's been running and driving for a few days now, fuel pressure is definitely low with the air dog setup for a CR.

Thanks for the compliment, it's been quite the project, and to get it all done in 3 weeks was a challenge!

Here are a few pictures from facebook, we gave up of using the factory mounts that held the fan shroud on so I put in a bunch of screws 1 1/2 inch apart to keep it in place. Turned out nicer than I thought it would. So far my dad has put 200 miles on it and no extra bugs have come out. Still working on a different belt routing to drive the fan in the correct direction.

Bad ECM, going on the 4th set of injectors, sick of it never running right. everyone said get proper filtration, ok did that, injectors still failed. For the cost of another full set plus an ECM from dodge, we just went ahead and stuffed the 12 valve in and have no regrets!
