Best turbo for cummins 4bt

When drag racing I turn on lockup which engages in second gear. Normal driving is unlocked unless your on the highway cruising at constant speed. I only have 2 small trans coolers ahead of radiator and it isn't bad keeping temps down. the higher stall convertor and driving with it unlocked will create more trans heat to dissapate
 
What governor springs are you using. I only really want to use 3200 and it seems if I get that high of a stall torque converter I will always be right at the top of my range. Even if I just want to cruse around. Or am I understand this wrong?

How would a 40mm hx30 and a 56mm hx35 work together for compounds any thoughts?
 
4K was what the data I'm giving you is from. Running 5k now.

3400is the small speed which is when your torque converter makes solid viscous coupling. It is not where your eengine rpm is actually going to get you to start moving. I run a loose comvertor due to the small displacement engine to keep turbo happy and drivability is fine. I'm not a guru by any means and what I say is not always perfect facts this is just my experience.

I don't have any data running small compounds as your asking. My compounds are a billet he351 and a 71mm hx55. When turbos light you better be pointed in a good direction and hang on!

Thankyou for you input. I like input from people that have done and have there opinions because with out actually doing it it’s all just speculation. Why is asking you all these question. I had this motor in a 94 dodge 1500 originally never touched the trans and never did really like the way it ran. I talked to a guy at ats about it back than and he said the same thing to raise the stall speed but I didn’t have the money back than to do it. It since shook that truck apart lol so I pulled it out and want to put it in a 79f150. Want to use rubber isolator mounts to help the shaking. What did you do for mounts?
 
I'm actually using factory ranger motor mounts lol they give enough to calm down the vibration and have not ripped apart yet. Original ones had 300k plus miles on them and when I had motor out last I just used stock replacement mounts
 
Might look into some of the S200SX-E frame turbos. There is some that size comparably to HX30 but are a little larger. Kind of in between 30 and 35. Considering one as a secondary in a twin kit for a 4bt. 52 inducer, 61.5 turbine. Some smaller compressors available too. Main problem I see with them is they aren't gated housings and T4 flange on tighter AR turbines. May be gated housings out there, haven't got that far yet.

I run a 257sxe on my tractor that I pull, they seem like good chargers. Mine handles 40psi no problem.
 
Good to know. They use the same technology as the S300sx-e, so I would assume they spool well for their size and are fairly durable.
 
It looks like AGP has a lot of turbine housing options in T3 with a 3" v band outlet. Turbos are reasonably priced as well.
 
I’ve got an AGP exhaust housing for a s200 that I’d sell reasonable if you go that route. I imagine a s257 would be pretty laggy on a 4bt. It would be similarly sized to a hx35 and Ive read a lot of people think they are too lazy.

That sounds like a great combo to me.

Or run a 54mm hy35 with the 44mm hx30w.I'd stay away from either the 40 or 46mm hx30w in your case.

Definitely stick with compounds over a single at 300hp.

Not sure what he has for your application, but look up Regan Swan from Dickeye Fabworx. He did my 6BT mounts and they work with factory 2nd Gen snail mounts and you can use the rubber factory parts with them.

I must have missed typed my hx30 is a 40mm intake inducer.

Why would you stay away from the 40mm?

You saying this might make a good single a 4bt that won’t be too laggy? Or would it be better paired with something else?

I'm saying it's a good possibility. When you run the Borgwarner match bot program it lines up pretty well for a 4bt in the 300 hp range. So I would assume that it would be decent as a single, or as a secondary in a 400-500 hp twin setup. But I don't have first hand knowledge because I haven't tried it yet. It is just something I was considering as a good option for a 4bt. Maybe if it was something you were interested in a phone call to AGP would get you some more accurate info and recommendations.

40mm is a touch small I think when paired with a 56mm inducer for a compound setup imo.

The 40mm hx30w and 56mm hx35w are both easy to stumble upon so that is what most use.
