I wish I could tell you. My laptop loses connection shortly after beginning to move. Never got to observe beyond 2nd gear. When the downshift happens, I am holding 15% throttle, as observed on Torque, flat road steady 50 mph. Just randomly drops out of OD.

I am running Windows 7. Is it possible to use my Android based tablet to access the controller? I would need a micro USB on both ends of a cord to do it. Or Bluetooth connection to the remote.
This morning it was in and out of OD and it down shifted while in 3rd to second couple times!

I haven't experienced anything like that with mine. What did you use for power and ground?

No Android atm. It requires a USB OTG adapter, and we haven't written the software yet.

I have been using a Windows 10 based Toshiba tablet that streams the data for quite a while without interruption.

For the disconnects I would start by looking at the power connections for the anteater. The OD dropout could be power because without power it would go the 3rd gear unlocked. The software isn't very processor hungry, but it does require some power to render that much data at 10hz on the screen.

Thanks. I will let you know what I find. Custom harness for Fummins may be the issue. Easy to hot wire off battery to confirm.

Tried using a jumper to.power anteater directly from battery and measured the voltage drop between battery neg post and ground for anteater. I thought I had it. The test drove seemed perfect.

Then driving home the up and down shifting continues for no obvious reason. Light throttle, steady speed and no hills or reason for a downshift. I did not have my laptop with me. I will hook it up and see if the communication issues are helped with the solid battery voltage in the morning.

Could this be a valve body issue? The trans came from a donor that burned. The connectors were slightly singed and have been replaced. The case did not suffer any damage. Pump appeared to be fresh and we used the trans as is. Or possibly an intermittent speed sensor?

Get a pressure gauge on line pressure and verify the pump is good in OD. It could be many things.

With the jumper still on this morning, it was still acting up and randomly downshifting, until it locked in second gear. Would not drop down into low and never upshifted. 3500 in second at 45 mph! I tried cycling the power, but forgot the jumper.

Once I released the power to the Anteater, it was back to shifting and still randomly downshifting. It will now drop to second at times and put the engine on the governor. I had the laptop online and noted when it dropped off and froze at the same time as an downshift. After 2 attempts to have the laptop connected, I gave up. I wish I could actually watch the commands from the Anteater, but it seems impossible with the loss of communications after a few seconds. GRRR!

What kind of pressures should I see? And where do I intercept that pressure on a 48RE?

It depends on the current gear and TV setting, anywhere from 150 to 220psi. Does the remote 'freeze' when the laptop drops off? If so, the controller itself could be shutting down to protect itself from power issues.

Give Rick a call 614 733 3744 and he can walk you through the troubleshooting over the phone much faster than I can type.

Yes it does. Sometimes first gear x mph. Yesterday once in first, then 3rd at 32 mph.

I ordered the OTC pressure gauge, fitting and hose kit. I should have some data Monday to share.

Thanks

Got the gauges, tested the line pressure. With the kick down linkage at 100%, I get about 100PSI. About 80psi at idle. With the kick down disconnected, its about 60-70PSI. This was in drive, with the truck standing still.

I have been running the truck with the kickdown at about 70%.

Set the kick down for 100%, and road tested with gauge in the accumulator port. Holds about 90-110 in first, second and third. Then the jumps to 160-180 in TCC and O.D. Fluctuates a little, maybe 10 PSI. Under hard acceleration, there is a little chatter when OD engages. Then nice and smooth.

Try to watch for a change in pressure when it falls out of OD and lockup.

Pressures look great to me! I suspect the Anteater is either losing power or locking up.
When was the Anteater purchased?
Are the pins on the remote loose?
Is the Anteater fuse firmly captured in the socket?

-Late summer.
-Pins seem OK.
-Fuse and its connection appear perfect.

I have put several hundred miles on the truck on the last few days. The downshifts are becoming very few and far between. One thing I have noticed. The trans seems reluctant to shift to second. I have 1-2 shift set at about 15-16 mph. It usually happens right at 25MPH and about 2800RPM, with little or no throttle. Once it hits second, the 3rd, TCC and OD occur right about where they are programmed. I backed off the kick down to about 60%. Shifts are still firm and the downshifts are less harsh.

Question, now that I have the Anteater working to my liking, should I mess with the Governor psi Modifier? Could this have an effect on the late 1-2 shift?

BTW, I am pretty happy with the Anteater. I have not tried the laptop in a week. I will soon.

Thanks, again for the help.

Yes, the governor pressure modifier controls the 1-2 upshift and the 3-2 downshift. If it's shifting late, try increasing it by 5.

Forgot to mention the MPH setpoints are when the VB is electronically commanded to perform the action. When the electronically-commanded hydraulic component responds will vary depending on the available fluid pressure. This is why I asked for pressures before troubleshooting the electronic side.

Got the laptop hooked up and it lasted long enough, before locking up, to observe 2 full cycles of gear changes. The Anteater is not delaying the 1-2 shift. The 1-2 command comes right at programmed point. And on the first 2 cycles of the transmission, on a cool morning, the trans shifted as programmed. Once it locks up, Anteater has to be power cycled to resume ability of the FTSC to communicate. And the Dashboard has to be closed and reinitiated to resume monitoring. And, once the trans has some temperature, the delay of the 1-2 shift resumes at about 25MPH. This is with the kick down held at about 60%. At 100% it acts exactly the same.

Could there be a sticky valve in the VB? and/or, Could the Governor psi Modifier be effecting the delay?

Thank you
