Diesel 2WD Minirod
Well I know it aint a truck, but it is a diesel and it is a 2WD. Fireman450 asked me for some pictures so I hope yall don't mind if I post a couple here.
It has a Nissan SD22, which is a 2.2L. They were used in the early 80s in Datsun 720 pickups, other applications were marine and industrial. I was told this engine came out of a forklift.
It has been turboed, but until I can learn to read Japanese I guess I won't know with what kind it is. It has a mustang or ranger 4 speed, and narrowed Chrysler rearend.
I haven't even got to pull it yet to see how wild it is, the guy in NY that sold it to me said that loaded it will make about 35 lbs boost. According to what I was told and by the way it smokes, the inline Bosch pump has been turned up a good bit, and the injectors have also been worked. It has water injection on it after a sort.....
Maybe after the De Leon pull August 7 -8 I will have some video.

That is cool. Have you hooked to anything to see if it will build the boost he says it will. I'd be finding something to pull maybe even my truck. lol

I haven't hooked it to anything, I just drove it from the trailer into my shop and started tinkering with it. I put 0 degree washer fluid in the water injection, read up on Peaks website and they said 0 is 23% methynol. Anyway got a diesel tiny tach for it, didn't know what kind of no load rpm it was turning. Bumped the rpm up some, and with water inj on and boost switch set to kick it in at about 7 lbs. it's turning 3850 rpm no load and building 16 lbs boost.
1st hook is a week from tonight, hope to get some video.
That diesel tiny tach is pretty cool, it even has a max rpm recall in it. Price wasnt bad either, I think it was $105 including shipping. I'm gonna have to have one for the Dakota to......

Dale,
I know Mike well, used to pull with him all the time at Lonestar, but he don't pull anymore. The last mini he had was one that I sold him. It had a 2.3L Ford in it, but he sold it a couple of years ago.
I'd like to see a picture of yours you sold.
Thanks for the well wishes, I hope it pulls good!

I did, but I'm slow on this kind of stuff, it may take me another day before I can get the video on youtube. Thanks
Pull was great, won the class friday night, was going good sat night, track bit harder, and my rpm dropped enough on me that I got under my turbo or whatever you call it, lost my boost anyway. Anyway, got dead last sat night. But had fun....

Pretty neat. Any idea what kind of power it makes? What all mods were done to the engine?

I don't know what kind of power it is making, I can only guess somewhere around 150 or so. It usually takes at least that to be very competitive in the class.
It was originally a non turboed engine, so the mods are the turbo, + I was told that the inline P style bosch pump has been turned up, the injectors have been worked to flow more fuel, the rpm has been turned up by changing gov. springs, and it has a homemade water inj system which dont really work very well. I already have fogging nozzles and a pump to change that.
So, at this point thats about all I know it has had done to it, but I'm sure I stand to learn a lot from it.
It sure was fun to drive........

I'd think it would be making more then that. I know the NA version is rated at 80HP at the crank. I was thinking closer to 200 or so depending on pump mods and injectors. That would be a cool little motor to drop in a S10 like that for DD use.
