11 Second Full Weight 12v.....
Hey guys...long time no talk to (not regularly at least). I'm still kicking in the magazine world building a truck for Diesel World and I'm hoping to dip into the 11s soon. Was curious on what you guys thought or if anyone else was running something similar. Runs 13s now on a bone stock 160 pump and I was hoping to smash right through to the 11s with a Scheid 13mm pump and a bit more timing. Turbo is a 69mm SXE and converter is a V10/V10 which I think might be a little too loose. Was going to shift around 3200-3300 I think cause the head and cam are stock. Timing would be around 25 degrees. Also a little worried about the cam backing out...any way to retain the stock cam? Truck will be on all terrains and weighs 6600 with me. Yeah I know, heavy, but I like to use em as daily drivers.....looking forward to some of your thoughts and setups!

What will the converter brake stall to? Are you locking it up early? I'd say low 12's not 11's

That should be plenty to run 11s. I wouldn't worry about the converter, little loose maybe but you'll be in lockup most of the time. A bolt on cam gear retainer is a good idea with a 13mm pump. Mine went 11.9s with an S369 in a 6500lb VP truck, with more fuel you should have no issues.

What was your boost with that s369? How about the current setup? What kind of converter are you running?

If you are planning a 13mm. Then you need to do something about cam gear retainment.....

Hence my question about retaining the stock one?....or is it time for a cam swap too?

The S369 was gated at right around 55psi, seemed to have some left on the table but that's all the VP could give. The S472 as a single climbs to right around 60psi in 3rd and 4th. I was running a Goerend 17-150 for a while before I switched to a bolt together converter, that was probably my favorite setup with the truck.

If you are using a stock cam with no threaded hole for a retainer 2 small TIG welds from cam to gear are a good quick fix. I used 309 filler and it held up great with 13mm pump. Would be easy with cam out of the truck to die grind the weld out and remove the gear later if you wanted to upgrade the cam. While you are in there throw 2 more small welds from crank gear to crank also.

Yeah I've heard of people doing that, but there's always someone who jumps in and is like you're going to ruin the gear...you're going to ruin the cam.....welds are going to come off inside your engine....etc.

If you can TIG weld competently it's not an issue. Much more likely to have one of the bolts under the cover rattle out and ride down your gears. If you are really worried about it and don't want to weld get an aftermarket cam and use a retainer.

I'll back Vince, he's local to me.
His cam gear was grinding against the cover, all stock with a 13mm pump.
He reset the gear and did a couple tig welds and it's been rock solid.
He also welds for a living.

Dont under estimate the power of a 160 pump with stock cam and head. Did 11.20s with one. You can drill and tap the end of the cam for a retainer in the truck. Its a poor mans way of doing it and not buying a good cam but its doable.

Hey Brad! Hope all is well. Funny just injectors and turbo get you from 19s to 13s lol. I remember why I got into diesels.....
