FUBARed my pyro probe installation

I hate ATF
I was having an issue with my pyro probe blowing out of the manifold at higher RPM's so I ordered up new fittings directly from Isspro. Here's the result after taking the retaining nut one turn past finger tight, as per their instructions.

You can see that the ferrule has dug into the soft thermocouple and is now permanently attached. Removing the thermocouple resulted in making it unusable due to how stuck it was in the manifold.

My pyro was VERY slow to read and wouldn't go above 900F, which is why I started investigating in the first place.

Did I goof up and install the ferrule upside-down, or was this a result of over-tightening the retaining nut?

What size probe? IIRC that type of ferrule is non directional.

I'd spend the money on a good swagelock fitting.

Please PM me your mailing address and I'll have a replacement sent. I'll look into revising those instructions. You did have the ferrule in the right direction. I always just tighten until I can't move the probe tube, then about 1/8 turn more. IIRC it's about 1/2 to 3/4 turn beyond finger tight (unless you have fingers like vice grips)!

Michael Pliska
