after 5yrs.... it had enough and went "boom"
as much as I hate to say it, my motor is now a part of the "SWOLED" category. It took a pounding for 5 yrs though and held up better than I ever expected.
After a few runs at the track last night, it was down on power a bit but, running fine. Left, went out to dinner then drove the 2 hrs back home hitting 80/90 on the interstate.
About 4 miles from my house, doing between 25 and 30mph and with no signs at all of what was about to happen, boom. Seems one of the rear piston rods snapped.
Can't say that I'll be able to keep this updated with any progress of a rebuild. I'll be lucky to be able to pull that off anytime soon. I will post some more picture once I pull the motor though.
parts I found on the road............ Zack's push rod is still straight as an arrow lol

Sorry Ty....
I think you may have had bent rods for a While now and it just finally let go.
Hense your lower compression numbers that always baffled you and the lack of power that it should have made with the new setup..
I / we caught a lot of chit for not keeping motors together, Even though most all mine (except this last one) were caused my very weird bad luck issues that weren't our fault. Not sure on my last one.. I think I'd done damage to the crank long ago and the heavier piston's with my new found SSR power just was the straw on the camels back..
Either way..It can happen to the so called "Best" of them.. Even a Schied motor...
Sorry for ya Bud.... Try that another 3 times or so, and you'll have a clue how I feel...
Hope you can recover....

Thanks for the replies
Swole, you could be right although the piece of rod I have doesn't look to be twisted or bent. It looks like a almost clean snap. I definitely have no plans to do it as many times as you.... I'd sell the truck first ! It will go back together better than it was though, it's just gonna take a long time.
It's damn sure amazing the damage that can be caused. I couldn't have been at more than 900 to 1000rpm's
I'm not real sure what rods they were. I do know they were stock rods that got shot peened but, as for where they were made or, if they were 12v or something else... not sure. All the pistons were stock, shaved and coated.
I'm half way through the top of the motor now.... I just hope my 2ton cherry picker is enough for that block !

The coveted window'd block club.....welcome! The real question....did you drive it home the last 4 miles?....
I was two miles from home when mine went and it made it to the shop missing the one hole....
Don't look like a PM break.

With the fact that the pin is out of the piston makes me think the piston seized up in the block and pin was ripped out and the rod broke when it smashed thru the block. Sorry to see that this happened. guess its time for some stronger rods and pistons.
