How expensive are 6.7L parts?
Guy i know posted this on a local forum, he works at a dealer...
Quote:
customer brought in a 2007 ram3500 cummins 6.7L emissions diesel, with intermittent no start, and sounds like its running on 2 cylinders. cummins/chrysler tell tech that the damage is already done, showing rust after the multiple fuel filters before hitting the injectors, injector pressure is spiking to 10,000psi which equals clogging injectors, cummins/chrysler recommends that we replace all 6 injectors, and the lift pump.
Costs:
1 6.7L injector = $1900 x 6 = $11,400 in just parts alone
1 6.7L lift pump = $5000 x 1 = $5,000
so the shop bill so far is the $89 diag fee, plus $16,400 in parts, and were not even replacing a shortblock, turbo, or any huge parts.
all i have to say is wow.
|
there is no way in hell a lift pump costs half of a new engine, and 6 injectors cost more than the whole engine

bill as of today is right around $21,000, more than a new motor, and now insurance will have to step in.

If the cost is more than a new motor, why not just put in a new motor? It would be cheaper if all those prices are correct. I feel for you CR guys with multi-thousand dollar injectors.....Not that my IP are cheap....

Something's not right. There's no possible way they could cost that much.

Is this shop in Mexico? Maybe the bill is in peso's instead of dollars...
Seriously though, that can't be right. No way...

I get a few parts from our local dodge dealer. I just called them and he said that 1 injector for a 2008 6.7 cummins is $1810, before tax. That CANT be right I made sure to clarify that it was just 1 injector and not a whole set. I dont see how its possible for them to be that much.

Are they the same as 2007 5.9 injectors? Did they change something from 07 to 08 to drive the cost up?

the 6.7l injectors are very much different then the 5.9l. the reason parts are so explensive is one; cause its an NEW part, not a reman, you have to recoop costs. two; cause it has to do with warranty costs on a corporate level. It was explained to me way back when i was an apprentice, and i remember exactly how it plays out, but it actually saves DC money.

He is telling the truth
I have a 2007.5 2500 dodge with 6.7 that came in on tuesday morning from the local dealer the customer ran red fuel in it and it is smoking like a biotch.
They said it would be over ten grand to fix it and he said to kiss his a$$ I called the supplier we use for Injection pumps and he told me the new injectors were $1600-$1800 each.
I think it just needs to be flushed good it won't come out of regen.
With no warranty left it needs the offroad exhaust and dpf delete.
PS: The owner said the salesmen told him at the time of purchase that if he gets out of town and gets low on fuel that he could run a little other than ULSD fuel to get him back in town where he could find good fuel.
They tell you what you want to hear then when you need them they stick it in you with no vasoline just dry and hard.

Talked to a local dealer here and they said the new 6.7's are kicking rods out the side of the blocks and Chrysler is looking at every aspect of the truck. If anything is not factory, they are kicking the warranty. He said there were over 100 in the country like that and Chrysler is trying to kick everyone because of the cost associated with the new engines.
Ouch!

Factory trucks are kicking rods? That's interesting. I'll be waiting to here more on that.

Start asking some of your service managers. I was talking to one in the Fort Worth area and they said that Chrysler doesn't know why it is happening and are looking to aftermarket parts as the cause. Like intakes and exhaust systems, not to mention the normal stuff.
All I have to say, my Ford may not be the best, but at least it gets fixed (no matter how often it breaks lol).
