1000hp Engine Buildup.

Had some engine issues that forced me to take it out. Then i decided that "since it was out anyways" that i might do a few upgrades. So I asked the guys at Smith Diesel here in Cedar city Utah if there was some "since it was out ayways" upgrades I should do. Well " since it is out anyways" we should do this, this and this. And I said ok! So here is what "this, this and this" is:

First we took the block, crank, rods and cylinder head up to Randy's Machine Shop in Richfield Utah where he balanced rotating assembly, polished the crank, shot peened and polished the rods, coated and flycut new pistons at 16:1 compression, torqued deckplate for cylinder honing, torqued the mains for linebore honing, and drilled and tapped for 14mm head and main studs.

2004 excursion in the works.

Before we started assembly i threw on a fresh coat of paint, now this isn't a show truck by any means but i figured "since it was out anyways" I might as well.

Assembly of the engine was great. the engine Girdle that Randy's makes is really sweet and with the 14mm studs i think the mains should stay in place.

One of the problems I had before we took out the engine was that the cam gear was starting to walk off the cam. So the new cam has the bolt and retaining washer to solve that problem. And "since we had to put in a new cam anyways" we put in a new brass cam thrust bearing thing that the Smiths said was cool. It has a lot more oil passages then the stock one.

looks good! I'm still in the rear down stages of the "Since it's out" work.. Mind mentioning how much you have into the machine shop work? If not that's fine.. just trying to see what I'm in for.. Of course, I'm just going for the smooth running motor,, not the 1,000 hp motor

Then we put together the pistons and rods and put them in the block, which is an international block, didn't know that until we pulled it out.

The owner of Smith diesel hooked me up with a 13mm pump and a sweet fuel system. i had to grind on the head a little bit to make room for the fitting on the return line off the pump. we are not using an overflow valve, instead we are going with the aeromotive fuel regulater for boost referenced fuel pressure.

My stock harmonic dampner was a piece of crap so we stepped up to the fluid dampner. We drilled the crank for the pin kit and it really was pretty easy with the engine out.

I am going to be running a t4 turbo so i got a new t4 PDI manifold. I did a little porting on it, mostly just cleaned up the edges and stuff, it was fun.

Well there is my "since it was out anyways" buildup, it won't be at 1000 hp right away as this has put the strain on the wallet. The only thing i am lacking now is air and a clutch to hold it. I currently have the con Fe which held at 600 hp decently. The turbo i will be running for now is an aurora 5k with an industrial t4 gated turbine housing.

Planning on putting it in the truck on wednesday, hopefully all goes well and i will be back on the road again.

The pistons are ones that my machinest picked. The valve reliefs and the lowered compression were done at the machine shop.
I realize that the ddp4 is not a 1000 hp injector. I have thought about running those for now until the funds recover, then i'll go for more air and fuel later.
I have already clipped some of the fins on the water pump for coolant pressure, do I need to do more?
The guys at Smith diesel will be making the throttle linkage.

Engine look svery nice. Did you have to machine the main caps when you installed the girdle?

no there was no machining to the main cap, the girdle fit right over them.

You can easily do the Cummind coolant bypass since the engine is out.

Looks great BTW.
