How much HP will a stock 05 Torqueshift auto transmission hold?

I was wondering how much a 2005 ford 350 transmission will hold. I have a sct X3 with extreme race and street tunes from Eric at Innovative, and s&b intake and intake elbow, and 4" straight pipe. I was wondering how much more horsepower I can hold b4 replacing the stock tranny or rebuilding it. I want to run nitrous and probably a new turbo to.

Just depends on mileage and what kind of loads and stuff like that, that it has seen. Mine for instance has been good until now and it has 102k on it. For the most part though it sounds like a tuner and basic bolt on are about the max. Some have run nitrous but those would probably few and far between that have survived for to long.

I have been beating the living **** out of mine for about 135,000 miles. Tuning is the key to longevity. The stock converter will handle more power than an ATS one will. You can extend the life of the direct clutch, which is also used for reverse, by changing the solenoid to a different version. The ones that we do can be done in 2 different variations. A "shift kit" on these units is bull**** since its controlled by the tuner. The trans-go kit changes stuff in the pump and includes an improved snap ring which is good to put in to keep the unit from severly over pressurizing and ripping itself apart. Cranking up the pressure won't help you as much as people think it will.

And always remember that a built, "bullet proof" unit can be destroyed by the file loaded into the processor.

Sorry to de-rail the thread but can you email the info and prices you have on the direct drive solenoid that you have to upgrade?

150 bucks sitting on your doorstep. It applies the clutch faster and flows 4 times the volume.

Shoot me a text message to my phone. 954-275-6801. Gets tough to hear the phone when the machines are running.

I'm a fan of such solenoid. I would have paid $400 for it.

I'm still running the stock tranny with everything in my sig. I just installed a 64/71/70 also. I've dragged it probably 6-8 times and truck pulled it about a dozen times with zero issues.

I blew a stock torque converter apart at about 40k miles, no towing, just using a tuner and street driving. This was an SCT with Innovative tuning, so it wasn't a tuning issue. I think it was just a fluke.

With the 64 and 190's, you are on barrowed time. We have lost two transmissions this year (both stock) with combinations very close to this.

We recommend people start saving for a tranny over 500 hp. As Doug mentioned, tuning plays a role in the life, but they can only hold so much power.

What failed in those units?

I don't know. We don't mess with transmissions.

They were smoking at the track and our E.T’s dropped substantially. Now they slip and now they have a few quarks. Both will be rebuild this winter.

Are you getting gear wrong ratio codes?

Forgive my ignorance on transmissions - but when rebuilding them, what is required? My stocker has some odd quirks...it seems to "slip" if I shift into reverse quickly and get on the pedal. It will also sometimes fail to drop down a gear when going up a hill slowly (normally it'd go 2nd to 1st, but it revs up and then slams back into second, then tries again).

I'm hoping a Suncoast rebuild kit will take care of it, but again, I don't know anything about transmissions. Is there anything else I'd need to get replaced/put in?
