dodge used the same dana 70 from 1984 until 2009. dana 70-u, 32 spline axle small pinion.

gear set from a first gen would work in a 2nd gen dana 70.

Everything I have read has said no, which is why I never tried it. From what I read the 3.07 R&P will not fit in the standard 70 housing.

the 1st gens with the .08 gear ration has the dana 60-f front axle and a dana 71 rear i had 3 sets of these axles and i have got rid of them because the carrier in the diff is smaller, the only other gear set you can get for these axles is a 4.10 but you need a special carrier to do so.
So no you cant put the 3.08 in a standard dana 70

sorry for the derail

Mark the drive shaft, rotate your tire 10 times and count the rotations of the driveshaft.

That will get you real close.

I learned this lesson a LONG time ago messing with turbo pinto motors in light cars... you put a 4.30 gear in the thing, and you never get a load on it before it's time to shift... put a 3.08-3.27 gear in it, and WOW!

(yes, Charles, I realize with a bigger turbo and more RPM it would have wanted a little more gear! (always gotta cover my bases w/ you )

How I can gain more low end torque? (mine is 4.1)

Bigger wheels?
Tighter converter?
Twins?

Tubos, timing and tuning do not help, becasue we have swap tubos from one truck to other adn allways result is the same

If a regear is out of the question, I'd consider taller tires.

I don't know what converter you currently have, but you don't want to go too tight. As a general rule of thumb, when you put a stator in a converter that does not redirect as much fluid (which will tighten up the converter) the torque multiplication of the converter will go down. I think most people will find that they like the feel of a slightly looser converter over a tighter one given the opportunity to drive both. Within reason of course.

I run about 14 flat with 32 inch tires and with my 41s on, it only gets to about a 15.3 in the 1/4 mile. same exact trap speed though.

I have two trucks with the 3.07 gears.. they are different housings and carriers..the sticker still shows dana 60 and 70 etc.. but they are 61 and 71.. do a bunch of looking into it..1stgen .org, tdr, dtr, etc etc even the gear companies will explain that... i wish they made 3.00 gears for a superduty dana 60 i'd be running them in my excursion..its a nice setup..i don't use od till 55 mph..then 1500 is about 65 -70 etc...nice on the highway and towing at 1800 in 4th direct is alot easier on the trans etc...
I've thought of cutting a first gen housing and making a drivers side drop for the superduty... oh well
