Ive been around the 7.3 for quite a while. But Ive never had any dealings with the 6.0. Seeing as how I cant seem to find a decent 7.3 powered excursion, that isnt made of gold apparently, I am now looking into the 6.0's.

So, was the 03 the only problematic one?

Appreciate the help? And any other advice would be great too.

Thanks

The problems really just depend on the previous owner and prior maintenance.
Get an oasis report before you buy one.

Got ya. So are studs and the EGR delete the first things that have to be done? Im not planning on doing much more than a 6 pos and exhaust. Every vehicle I buy I immediatly do all fluids, filters and any other minors that need to be done. Anything else I should definatly do after buying.

EGR delete is a must, and studs should be if you plan on running a programmer. That takes care of the two biggest issues with the 6.0.

Egr delete and studs are not a must unless you are the type of person that fixes stuff that isn't broken

Its called preventative maintenance, fix it before it breaks is easier then getting stuck somewhere broken.

I'm with Goose. It's not necessary to replace the studs. It all depends on driving style. If you are the type to beat the hell out of it and clip your toe nails with the engine fan all the time. You may want to due the studs, they will fail. But if you are driving it responsibly you will probally be ok. I would probally do the egr delete fairly quick but it is not necessary to do immediately.

You are right, you dont have to do any of that. There are plenty of 6.0's that have never had head studs or egr deletes. But if those are the two biggest problems why not do them? You can leave your truck completely stock too, but then I think you might be on the wrong forum.

I just don't like when people come I to a thread and immediately say you better stud it and delete the Egr for it to be reliable. Completely false.

I've towed, daily drove, drag race, sled pulled all in my race tune. Zero problems. Stock head bolts and Egr cooler. Oh yeah, I rolled over 266,000 miles yesterday.

There are always exceptions. You should know that by now. Most of the 6.0s I have come in contact with have headstuds and a delete. Some were done before failure, the rest were done after failure.

If I was buying a used 6.0 that I had now clue how it was maintained before I would rather fix a potential problem when I was ready to do it rather then have it happen at the worst possible time.

I know several trucks just like mine. Personally know them.

It is actually very common, but no one comes on te Internet to brag about their 6.0

No studs here, no problems. I did the egr delete and oil cooler because I did not want that headache. That is the only reason.

I know of several 6.0's that have tunes and no studs or deletes with no problems also.

171,000 on my truck towed all it's life and has been tuned since this spring with no issues running IDP's Extreme Street tune. I deleted the EGR and did an MBRP Off Road exhaust with no head studs and I have not been nice to my truck either. Load it like a box car, drive it like a race car..........:rockwoot:

Alright. Egr. It wont be driven nascar style. This is the new family wagon. But it will have the pedal to the floor entering the highway a couple times a week. You know.

Whats the deal with the oil coolers Moose??
