weight for up front

maybe this is a secret but, there are many classes that dont allow hanging weights but say nothing about hidden weight behind bumpers? does anyone have any pics of setups or anything that will help particularly on a 3rd gen dodge. i just cant seem to find a easy way to get a couple hundred up front. :pop:
 
Most organizations if they do not allow hanging weight generally don't allow hiding it either.
 
If you show up on the 20th with weight behind the bumper you dont get to run the street class
 
it says hanging ? if its bolted or hidden then its not hanging . besides why would i waste my time pulling in a stock turbo class when lots of other guys run stock appearing.
 
LOL hide all the weight you like...but first ask us what we think...??? :hehe:
 
if the rules state in any sanctioning body that ballast are permitted but no hanging weight in front of bumper.. then why you all act like that would be breaking the rules. its pretty clear to me that as long as its not hanging in front of bumper its legal. seems pretty clear i know many of you have or are doing it.
 
The track official has the final say. Ask your local track official.

Most rules i have read through say that ballast for a non hanging weight class must be securely placed in the bed.

Any brush pull around here that has no such rule, we usually put a few hundred pounds of tractor weight on the passenger floor, then run the seat ahead so it wedges them in there tight.


However im almost certain you just boned yourself by asking this question in an open forum. Good luck with getting away with anything questionable.

Depends:
Some sanctioning bodies don't care where you "hide" it, just as long as it's not visible (they want fans to perceive those vehicles as stock"ish" from the grandstands).
Some sanctioning bodies say no hanging weight off (or in front of) front bumper, but really mean all weight must be in "bed area".
Some say explicitly all ballast must be in the bed area.

Most sanctioning bodies have poorly written rules and even sanctioning bodies with well written rules, have the rules "misinterpreted" by pullers. That is the main reason for having tech officials (if everyone understood and followed the rules, there would be no need for them). I would contact the sanctioning body and have a tech official let you know the intent of the rule. You could debate this forever (one way or the other). The only way to get the right answer is to contact them.

I know some pulls i go to say you cant have the weight any further than the front of the bed, and other pulls say you cant have the weight any further than the front of the bumper. So i made a bracket to hang weight under the bumper
 
If one was going to "cheat" I wouldn't start by asking the question on a public forum...
 
Make a set of solid steel front rims. Leave the outside flush with the bead, dish the back as little as possible. Should be good for a few hundred pounds each, steel weight caluclator says 566 for a 16x10 round.


Would probably stir up some chit, but it's not ballast. It's a functional, necessary part of a vehicle.

I'd think it would help dampen any hop coming from the front axle .

What about the HP loss from turning that extra weight (the heavier the wheel, the more power it takes to turn) or the effect they would have on front driveline parts? Do the Pro's outweigh the Con's? I doubt it, but I guess it's possible.

Think about the inertia factor, whats you get em spinning whats going to stop them? :lolly:
