Truckers, lets see your rigs!

Without getting into too many details...
I was parts truck for a load out of KS...

When you spend ~400k on a AG tractor... How does one NOT know how much it weight and rough legal means of shipping it... then try to pull a fast one on the shipping company... whine about how much it cost to ship an oversize overweight item ~1000 mile across country and the fall off parts.

They pulled a fast one and refused a COD after I was unloaded... Leason learned for me..

That's ok.. they'll get their tractor when they bring the money for shipping for both loads... in cash.

I can answer that question...but my sales may suffer :evil

Some farmers don't honestly have a clue what their stuff weighs, add that to the actual shipping cost of an overweight, oversize load, and they forget that they EVER knew what it weighed. Obviously, not all farmers...but thankfully, most that are this way are ones we only deal with on occasion.

Like the guy that asked us to haul his 16'8" wide Deere planter home from Indiana because his Deere dealer wouldn't go that far...he whined about the price, but it didn't help him.

That sounds like every guy that complains about his bill is always drivina Denali or a new platinum super dury. These guys will cry about puttin a few grand in a used rig they only payed 40k for, but theyre drivin a a 75k dollar pickup:bang

That’s a million dollar question. There isn’t a ton of labor swapping from ISX to Cat in a Paccar truck. The cost is in odd parts like wiring harness, fan/hub and if the donor engine came out of like a Volvo the rear adapter will have to be changed. The engine price can be from $3000 to $30,000.

When I did mine it would have cost someone way more because other than a glider there wasn’t a Cat option in 2013. So the motor mounts are glider specific along with the firewall to engine harness. Mounts from KW were $700 and harness is like $2500. Now for an older truck the harness could be $900 and mounts are readily available. I had mounts made for $100 and we already had a harness off a Pete glider so I just had to repin it for KW.

The easiest way is to buy a wrecked donor truck and you have it done cheap in a couple days. There are a couple trucks around here that have had the engine swapped 2-3 times.

Im not sure. Hes probly got 20k or so into this. Only because the engine was a core shortblock when started. So it got a whole platinum kit, plus turbo, then put a serpentine drive on it ect ect. Labor wise, I built the engine before I left the company, I've kept in touch with the other mechanic finishing the job. He picks away at it in between doing all other things keeping 75 units goin.
