Smarty Dyno #'s

I don't think that dyno was loading trucks down very hard at all. My truck only made 42 psi of boost at 4000 rpm and put down an earth shattering 426 hp. On the street it makes alot more. So I think marco is probably onto to something with it not loading the vgt turbo hard enough to get the numbers. Neither 6.7L was very impressive on the dyno I thought. But who knows though, that just my $.02

I dont get how it loaded twin turboed trucks, garrett turbos, turbonetics turbos, a ford "bi-turbo" and not a dodge cummins vgt turbo$.02

i thought programmers made power im still waiting for the smarty to be released after seeing what happened this weekend :)

This is part of the reason i think dyno's are as usefull as back shirt pockets. Every dyno is different, every truck acts different on the dyno and someone always has a complaint... as they do at the track. But personally think a dyno is good for tuning... thats it. Im sure there was a little more boost left in my truck when i ran it... as well as many of the other trucks. Its super hard to get a dyno to load down to what you want... without alot of seat time in that particular truck. but i was completely happy with my numbers. So from now on my numbers will be determined by trap speed...

Yeah figuring it by trap speed is alot more accurate, as long as your not afraid to drive it all the way there then leave it in the parking lot.:poke: We'll see how my ET numbers compare to the dyno numbers in a few weeks.

Every truck and set-up requires a differnt load % to get the best power. Its not just a "Load it and go" kinda thing. There is alot to tuning with the load cell loaded right.

At Left Coast Diesel, we have spent up to 3hrs on a single truck with different load %'s to get the MAX from a particular set-up!

So I could easliy see how a VGT truck might not have been loaded right for max numbers...the part that really throws the tuning a wrench is the fact that the turbo is already spooled well at 55mph...so finding a good load % to start with and how to run it is part of the fun.

We will be bringing Backhoeman's truck back down to LCD for more in depth Smarty tuning with lots more time spent on getting the right load % to spool well and make lots-o-power!

I am using the Smarty and the Quadzilla Adrenaline. It took a bit for the guys at quad to get the new beta tunes posted but those tunes plus the Smarty are guaranteeing that my stock tranny will die soon. Goerend here I come!

Oh and Jason at quad tells me that the 4000 series tunes should be out with in the next 2 weeks. That will get your RPM's up to 4000+, plus the other goodies they pack in.

it is not gonna have a vgt for long:rockwoot: I just wanted to post some numbers I was pretty happy with them for what I have done. As for the other trucks not making power I can not comment there is a lot that goes into tuning and one little thing can screw up your day. Along with lack of fuel weak converter slipping clutch on and on. Who knows I fought that fight for awhile and all I can say is I pugged in smarty on default setting and made power, playing with the tuning yielded more power.

Yes we will, yes we will.

I agree to this statement 100% thats why i dont take dyno numbers to serously... its a good base line for tuning but thats about it.

Backhoe man nice numbers again...let us know how your next turbo set up works for ya and im glad you are smart enough to play with your tuner and gain power...

Come on man VGT's can make for some fun power... don't give up on them just yet....

well wait a minute ... can we have your core when you get rid of it....:evil

I may need it in the future for emissions :bang I am curious to see what Brayden comes up with for us 6.7 guys maybe twins with a vgt in my future:evil

The 66mm VGT we are running right now seems to work very well.

That would be great!

Thanks,

Marco

Hey i can't get ahold of the guy with the 6.7 to get his dyno sheet. Maybe someone from the event knows his number? Anyway i heard he bought a xrt? and mp-8 and i guess from what i have heard it runs better... not sure but i would like to see some before and after results. At any rate i have not forgot about finding the sheet so hopefully i can get in touch with the dude and hope he still has the sheet.

Nearly 50 psi on the street today out of the lil 66mm charger from Fleece Performance. Enough boost and power to lift the head on the Kaleb's fat bottom girl....

Thanks for the custom tune Bob & Marco it's working great!

Brayden

A VGT produces how much back pressure? I was just wondering how in the heck the EGR works. ...The short of it, I'm guessing that a proper (designed) built VGT would be the ticket. Something that doesn't need to pack soot or open sludge doors.
