For any techs out there what is a good professional scanner to use on light and medium duty trucks. I want more than just reading codes, I want to be able to diagnose trucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

putting my 12 valve together for a swap into a ford and i measured about .041" piston protrusion, i know it is out of specs but my question is i am using a new head and a thicker gasket with a hamilton cam, i'm not sure if i recieved the wrong pistons or what. should i put it together and try...
