I have a 1972 shortbed 4x4 chevy pickup, and im planning on doing a 12v swap, i located a motor as well as a auto transmission. I didnt know if someone makes a set of motor mount you could buy and use or if everything has to be fabricated, i have found on other forums of lots of info about 73-87 chevys but no 72's. I plan on boxing the frame to hold up to the extra power and im swapping in heavier springs in front for the weight, any help would be greatly appriciated.

I would just make mounts, if you have the ability to box in the frame you can handle the mounts easily. If you need any advice i would be glad to help. Just consider things like front cross member and axle clearance, and are you running a body lift?

yea it has a 2 in body lift and a 6in leaf springs front and rear with 36s...I put the front in 8 years ago so they have a little sag to them, ive never taken it riding or anything just drive it take it to some local cruise ins. Im pretty sure deaver will make some heavier springs, and i read about a place that will military wrap your springs if u send them to them... as far as the cross member im thinking that once removed it wont be an issue ;) and i should have the axle clearance with the lift.

the motor trans combo i have found is out of a 96...but i have also located a complete 92 cummins truck for nearly what the powertrain is goin to cost me out of the 96. what would be the "better" engine or combinatin?

i really appreciate the website, ive done a 5.3 vortec swap in a 4x4 72 for a friend, and was planning on doing this to mine and actually have the trans still but here recently got rid of my motor and was going to go with a 6.0 vortec. but im thinking even if the cummins swap is a little more work it will be well worth it. :)

What front axle is under it now? depending on what you want hp wise dont be scared of the 92 especially if you need the axles

right now i have a 12 bolt rear and a 10 bolt front with 3.73 gears... but i will probably end up using a 14 bolt rear and a 60 front end or a pair of 60s since i already have a rear end...the 92 that i am looking at is 2wd, but the trans will be useable if i swap the output and advanced adapters sells a 205 adapter for it. ;) the main reason im thinking about buying the whole truck is for the acc brackets and everything that may or may not be needed.

i appriciate the pm w the number tried to pm back and it wouldnt allow it, i saved the number and will call if and when i need to ;) thanks again

like a 46re or 47re? i dont know much about these transmissions like which one would be best or easiest to use in a swap like this. does one have more wiring, i know in like a 4l60e or 4l80e they are electronic and they have to be somewhat wired in.

i know that the 47re is electronic also, i would like to know all that is needed to make it work bc donor truck is a 94 cummins with a manual, i figured theres a different harness and mabey a computer to the 47re
