Hello all,
I just got a call from a friend who just went down to Tennesee. On the way down pulling a small enclosed trailer with 2 Harleys inside. Pulling the hills under a load at about 2000 rpm he gets a popping & cracking sound coming from the intake he says. When he lets off the pedal or puts it to the floor all is good.
What a way to start a vacation !!
Any ideas??
Truck Info: 2003 f250 4x4 6.0 auto all stock except cold air intake 72,000 miles

Noises out of the intake are usually valve train related. Bent pushrod, cracked valve seat, or a bad lifter. Is the truck down on power, smoking or any other symptoms other than the sound? Is intake new? could he just be hearing the turbo bark? Is the sound random or is it repetitive like 1 out of 8 cylinders making sounds. Need some more detail if possible

sounds like he's draining the rail or maybe having an electrical issue...

valvetrain, lifters, valve seats, etc. dont' heal themselves when you let off the throttle and hop back on.

but fuel rails refill and electrical connections can go good/bad with changes in g force (such as sharp throttle changes)

Just got off the phone with my bud. He said the the truck is still doing the samething. He pulled the boot off the turbo and noticed a small puddle of oil. Is this normal? Could his wastegate be sticking ?

Thanks for the reply.
Is this a problem? If so,what needs to be done to fix it?

Its perfectly normal for an aftermaket intake. Maybe try not to let off the pedal so fast if he doesn't want to hear it.
