2007 ram 5.9 to 6.7 ◄█► ◄█► ? ? ☠
Hello, I am not a mechanic in ANY way. i can do basic maintenance.
i have a stock 2007 ram 3500 5.9, 2wd, 6 speed manual, Dually.
the air box was not fully closed and sucked in dirty air into the turbo and engine.
the air box is now replaced and the turbo is replaced.
the engine runs RUFF, burns oil, and sends black smoke out the tail pipe.
with all that said, i did pull a 25 foot gooseneck with an E80 bobcat excavator from SW Oregon to Glacier Park Montana.
Estimated load was 20,000 pounds.
Now i am thinking what to do:
1 - rebuild engine
2 - swap with a 5.9
3 - swap with 6.7, if i can find a donor
4 - sell truck and buy a used 6.7 or Ford 7.3
option 1 and 2 are easiest.
option 3 is scariest. i read most of 'strokeThis_'07 thread and the stated Hours of actual work = 40+ worries me
Option 4 would not get much for the 2007.
my goal is Power with Fuel economy
My dads 1990 7.3 turbo got 24 mpg on paper
my 2007 5.9 gets 11 mpg
dads 2005 5.9 4x4 gets 19 mpg highway, and 12 mpg towing
