A518 4x4 to 4x2 tailshaft swap. Age old question answered.

Hi guys. While trying to use the interwebs to find out if the tailshafts swapped I found everything from "no that's impossible" to "uh, Yeah probably cuz my cuzin billy done it"
And everything in between.

Maybe I wasn't looking in the right places. But I found No solid answer.

So first of all I'm no trans expert.
I'm a guy with a 4wd trans that needs to be 2wd.
I acquired a 4wd trans and t-case. Then got a complete 2wd tailshaft on eBay.

Took them both apart. And they do indeed swap.
Rather effortlessly. Here's some pics

Got the two units torn down pretty good to find the best parts of the bunch. Here's what I found.
The 4wd od unit is pretty well shot
The 2wd one seems to be in great shape

Nice! Thanks for the info. There's still one or two of is running the ol 518's & I had actually been wondering about this.
 
Very much apreaciated. Now can you do the same thing on a 47rh/A618?
