Just like the title says I'm looking for some advice for my first pull on the new truck. What I was pulling was an 04 quad cab longbed with just a smarty and a double disk.

The new ride is a 97 12v manual with a south bend 3850 clutch. The turbo is a 65/66/14. Injectors are 5x14's. The heas is fire ringed and studded and turbo makes about 55 on the street. I was told the pump is a modded 215 with 4k gsk's in it. Trruck also has traction bars and bump stops. No weight bracket currently but I'm working on it. Has stock sized tires with 3.54 gear ratio. Also to ad the truck is a dually

The guy who I bought it off of said he pulled in 4th gear low range and was able to hold 2800 to 3000 down the track. Should I try this gear or just go for 3rd?

Also I could you any tips as in tire pressure to start at etc..

Thanks

Where are you at in Western PA? I pull with an auto, so I won't be much help to you. Where's the first hook going to be?

Did you try searching the forums for info?

I have looked back through a lot of threads I could find looking for info and have learned a lot from it I was just looking to see if anyone had any other advice for my particular setup.

Also I am located between clarion and emlenton. I will be pulling at the clarion co. Fair this Friday and Saturday night

I had a similar set up and i ran 3rd low, and held 4000 down the track. Look up Dave Kratz talk to him at the next pull.

if you look its going to be a little faster tire speed if you can hold 4k in 3rd i think but i think 3rd works better for me.. depends on if you wanna spin those rpms or run around 3k in forth

my issue is that with the way the 4k gsk's are currently set it will only fuel to around 3500 on the street. I would like to be able to tune it to run 4000rpm but i dont know if i will have a chance.

what about timing? that may be what would be holding you back on top.
Also you may try and put a click or two in you gov springs.. my thoughts on running 3rd is that you make good torque down low but as ground speed increases so to you rpms basically keeping more traction then spinning hard in 4th and not really ever getting the traction.. anyway its worked well for my truck..

i am trying to find out timing from old owner. is there a way i can tell easily myself as i don't have a timing light to use? i tried revving it in neutral today and it would only go to 3700 and it took along time to get there from about 3200.

i know i wouldn't consider 4th if it wasn't for the past owner pulling in that gear all the time and doing well with it. i have the chance to pull ate the same track two nights in a row so maybe i'll try each.

does max psi in the rear and about 20psi in the front sound like a good starting point?

thanks
