ok guys i bought my 96 a few months ago and the truck isnt getting very good milage i get around 12-13 empty and 9-11 pulling my horse trailer with 2 horses witch is less then 10,000lbs in town and maybe 14 empty and 10-11with the trailer on the highway i blew the head gasket a week ago and when i put it back together i put studs the 4k springs 7x10 injectors and up the timming to 20* its not any better at all it has new filters and a new transfer pump the truck is a 5spd with 3.50 gears no plate afc is forward star wheel 3/4 way forward and the smoke screw is 1 1/2-2 turns in after it hits the diaphram.

Why such big injectors?

Bump the timing down to about 17.5*

Pull the afc housing back

All of those are going to be contributors to your bad fuel mileage

That and the lack of a fuel plate.

High timing will lead to a head gasket failure as well, just FYI

the injectors work out to be equivalent to just a litte bigger then a 5x12 they are cleaner and better for low end torque the truck is not smokey at all and yes i know high timming will lead to head gasket trouble but its a new gasket and new studs i have been running my 01 p pump with 23* for 2years
