Bad Throwout bearing? VW 6spd

So after spending an hour trying to get the 6spd mounted, and getting pissed because the trans wouldn't slip in the last 1/4", we discovered the crank would turn without turning the trans over. Finally got the trans flush and bolted up, turned crank over in gear, and the diff barely turns over and will stop spinning altogether if you just grab the axle flanges. Wondering if the throwout bearing is staying out against the pressure plate teeth and keeping the clutch disengaged. Also, with trans bolted up, it sounds like something scraping inside the bell housing when you turn the crank, which I'm starting to think is the disengaged clutch disc. Never had a bad throwout before, so not sure what it should feel like, but it takes a good bit of pressure to get it to go back against the trans, and turns with a lot of resistance, and what sounds like dry needle bearings. Video is terrible, and doesn't catch the noise or level of force required to push in on the bearing. Trans was sitting at least a year, probably 3+ without moving. I already have a new one on order, I'm just looking for any other possible ideas.

From the video, sounds like that throw-out bearing is shot. It should move freely with little noise. Try spinning it on the face/surface that the clutch fingers ride.
As far as the install, sounds like the spines were not lining up from the clutch disc to the trans input shaft. Turning the crank with light pressure on trans allows them to line up easier. Clean spines of input shaft, try clutch disc on splines, should be free and slide smooth. Check installed direction of clutch disc, can also cause headakes. Also angle of trans to engine super important. Making guide pins out of longer engine to trans bolts and cutting off the head of the bolts will limit this.
