Ok I know there are several machineists on here and I am looking for someone who can make me a billet steel or aluminum timing plug/pin. The reason is that I am adjusting my timing to find the sweet spot for MPG's,idle hazing, cruizing smoke ect.... and the stocker just isn't cutting it after the first dozen or so uses.Any and all help is appreciated.

the timing pin is worthless...

use the drop-valve method to find TRUE TDC and use plunger lift to set timing.

I had to help a guy the other day who was using the timing pin to set timing...it was far enough off that it wouldn't run!

it's amazing a lot of stuff runs at all!

I've got a couple 8.3 C series natural gas units that I take care of. Timing is supposed to be 30*. Timing on one unit was 22*, the other was 45*!!! :eek:

the stuff was simply assembled and started up. I guess they figured as long as it was running, it was right :eek:
 
I would also like to change the timing at the pulling track after I make the 3hr drive there from a MPG standpoint, I also confirm the timing adjustment with my diesel timing light and it has been within 2* of where I set it via plunger lift.
 
What is the drop valve method, and what is wrong with using the timing pin? I havent had any problems using the timing pin and dial indicator?

When using this list for plunger lift it is with in 2* at the upper end as I just set it at 7.09mm and by the light it was 22.5*.:doh: so I can compensate for it by trying different settings and not knowing what cam is in this Schieds 913 pump it is all a guess$.02
