My cam gear went for a walk, so it was obvious that I needed a retainer. Ordered one, they sent a thrust pad instead. After an email, they said that they'd get a retainer out pronto. That was a few weeks ago, after phone calls and emails I'm still waiting.

I'm now ready to put everything back together, and can't wait any longer. So I'm just going to make one myself. But, I don't know how deep to make the recess. Can somebody tell me how far the stock cam is supposed to protrude past the gear?
 
make sure the gear is down on the shoulder of the cam all the way. Then build your retainer off those specs. Or grab the welder and tac it on.
 
I know the camshaft end play needs to be .005 min .018 max.
