If it's cold outside, 40 or below and I don't plug my truck in its very hard to start and white smoke pours out of it. When I plug it in it starts fine, could I have a bad glow plug? I didn't think I really needed to plug it in unless it was really cold out.

Could be glow plugs but I would try the relay under the plastic power stroke cover on top of the motor they are known to go bad.

x2 my 97 was bad about that. You couldnt see anything in my yard that was around it. I put new glow plugs in it and that didnt change nothin, so I replaced the relay and no more smoke. It also would crank in 20 weather with 1 cycle.

Also just had to do this on my 2000 as well.
