has ayone done this? can it be done? I found a killer deal on one and would like to use it instead of buying a 271.

my buddy @ the local wrecking yard has done it.... didn't look like it was that hard.... i beleive he split the case

Yes, it can be done. I dilled and tapped the stub shaft for a 3/8" stud to hold a lever on. I used a short piece of 3/4" DD steering column tube since it fit right on the stub. After orientating it where it needed to be, welded that to a short strap. I should have made it a little longer though, becuase those things have a very stiff detent in them.

Maybe you could just swap out the shifter cam, but I was told they are different?

This was on a ford 273.

The front case half is different. If you want your 4wd light to work your going to have to drill and tap the hole for the switch. Thats all i know for sure.
