We are dry sump oiling the BMW engine project we are working on. I have the basic knowledge of how the system works.

How tightly sealed should the engine be?

I know the vacuum created in the crankcase aids in ring sealing and so on, but, for the oil to travel back to the tank, some vacuum leaks will have to exist, right???? Suppose you sealed the engine up tight with no venting, will the combustion pressure leaking by the rings be enough to create the pressure differential needed to move the oil?

I'll search around and see what I find.

Give Chris a call. He was the engine builder for the factory BMW race team and the guy I worked for. He dry sumps all the BMW engines he does. I can't remember where we ran them.
