fuel gauge

i got to noticin that i can drive about 300 miles and the gauge would say that i have used less then a 1/8. i put 15 gallons in it and it wasnt even close to 1/4 of a tank gone. but i am still gettin about 16 drivin in town and on interstate. is there anyway to fix this

Replace the sending unit in the tank or at least drop it and make sure the float is not sticking or binding against the tank wall.

do i have to drop the tank or can i get to it woth out dropping it

Either way the tank has to be dropped, it's REALLY easy on these trucks.

Drop the spare tire so you can get to the lines etc on top of the tank ad unhook them. Use the lift pump to empty the tank into a container or just run it real low on fuel so you can handle it. Undo the two strap bolts and the tank is now out

It's not a real quick job, but it is very straightforward and simple.

An even easier solution is to use the trip meter to monitor how many miles on the tank of fuel and ignore (in my case) the inop fuel gauge
