I'm in the market for a new racing helmet and after seeing all sorts of different designs, I started to wonder what types we have here on CompD. Anyone have any brushwork or just standard paint themes?

Throw pics up either way.

While I'm not the type of person to throw a helmet, I also don't take the time to be TOO careful with it, so I can't ever see spending a lot of money on helmet paint. I just like mine to be white for the hot days in the sun. Remember that fad of flat black helmets? Didn't work so well on those hot sunny days...

Mostly just a bored topic and it doesn't seem like it's going to take off so a mod can close if they please.

While we're on the topic of helmets, maybe we could talk about helmet specifications and at what speed or ET they are required. I would assume I couldn't strap on my dirtbike helmet and run down the 1/4 in a low 6 second vehicle.

So what is required at the 13.49 ET level on down?

Around here (the local track is IHRA), it's 13.99 and down.

Cage for 11.49 and down.

E.T. cars (13.99 or quicker) must use a helmet meeting Snell 2000, 2005, 2007 or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, 31.1/2005, 41.1A, 41.2A or 41.1/2005 Specs. Drivers in supercharged, front-engine, open-bodied cars and Funny Cars must wear a helmet meeting Snell SA2000, SA2005 or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, or 31.1/2005 Specs, any car running 9.99 or quicker in the 1/4 mile requires an NHRA approved FULL face helmet with visor.

SFI Spec 31.1A = Snell SA, open-face helmet
SFI Spec 31.2A = Snell SA, full-face helmet
SFI Spec 41.1A = Snell M, open-face helmet
SFI Spec 41.2A = Snell M , full-face helmet

I have ran in Ca, TX, ok, and Maryland and so far i have not had to wear a helmet and i ran low 13's at all of them, but i think the may have just let me slide

Same here. I've always just stuck with whatever paint scheme is on them at the time of purchase. Mostly monochrome paint schemes.

Unless you're extremely careful, the helmets WILL get dinged up here and there so I view any money spent on custom work on a helmet to be wasted.

At any realistic ET that you will run with a full bodied diesel pickup will be fine with a fairly new motorcycle helmet.

The track I've raced at the most is pretty lenient on safety equipment and would likely just casually mention that your helmet or harnesses are too old and it is time to get replacements rather than deny you the opportunity to race.

Just my opinion.
