ok this might be a dumb question but i gotta ask it. the 7.3 ford only pumps like 50-60psi to the injectors right? and the upgrades are really expensive right? so if a guy had the time and tools couldnt you just use a belt driven lift pump like what sled pullers use on the dodges. then have all the fuel you could ever need for some fat injectors. if this is really stupid just say shut up and go away. then i will:thankyou2:

Oil pressures at the injectors can go anywhere from 500 psi to near 4000 psi depending on the modifications. A stock pump usually doesn go much past 2500-ish psi. This is what we refer to as a HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump).. These are gear driven and there are plenty of options in the aftermarket world.

The LPOP (Low Pressure Oil Pump) is the pump that pulls the oil out of the pan and pumps it up from front cover to the HPOP resivour.

Hey Jeff,

There are three systems that make up our injection system.

System 1, electronics

System 2, High Pressure Oil

System 3, Fuel pressure

(System 3) Fuel pressure remains constant at all times. I believe it is regulated around the 50 psi mark on the 7.3’s (but could be wrong).

(System 2) The oil is what injects the fuel into the cylinder through hydraulic multiplication. The larger the injector (meaning cc’s), the more oil that is required to run the system. There are quite a few high volume oil pumps and dual oil pumps available in the market to make this work for the 7.3’s.

(System 1) The electronics let the oil into the injector to fire.

isnt the fuel pump the one that needs to be upgraded when you get bigger injectors or do you kneed to upgrade the oil pump to what im asking is can the fuel pump that suplies the fuel to the injectors be replaced by a large lift pump sorry for all the dumb questions

Fuel isn't the issue. The issue is running out of oil pressure, so we cannot get the fuel into the cylinders.

Most fuel pumps/system will maintain the fuel pressure.

my a1000 send enouhg fuel psi

twin hpops is needed for oil anyting below 3k at wot sucks

Thats why slow(retarded) people drive fords. They know when their trucks don't run right they need to add more oil.
just kidding ford guys!

Just to clarify a few things:

The larger the injector (meaning cc’s), the more oil that is required to run the system.
This isn't exactly true. Different types of injectors (regardless of CC's) use different amounts of oil. Stock AD injectors found on the 99.5-03 7.3L's use a ton of oil, more than many aftermarket injectors do. AD's are split shots, meaning there is a pilot shot just before the main event, and this split shot event causes excessive oil use. For example, let's compare AD's pushing 140 cc's, and AC's pushing 160 cc's. Even though the AC's are larger cc injectors and will make more power, the AD's will require much more oil. Even most hybrids use less oil than AD's, and most of those are pushing well over 200 cc's. You pretty much have to jump to B codes before you start using more oil than AD injectors use.

Most fuel pumps/system will maintain the fuel pressure.
For stock injectors..... barely. Start throwing in bigger injectors, and you can watch fuel pressure start to drop. The good thing is there are lots of fuel pump options out there, some that are much cheaper than the stock pump, yet still flow more fuel.

but seriously
ROFL! nice

yeah if you want bigger injectors you should definatley upgrade the lift pump to like a fass or air dog or whichever. and it would be best to add a stealth or terminator HPOP or twin HPOP's
