overheating when pulling

i pulled friday night at hazelwood indiana and turned over 4 grand not sure how much cuz still havent hooked up new tach i know it wasnt much over 4 but it blew freeze plug out on exh side rear of mtr not the one above trans dont know if the over 4 k caused it or jst coincidence but ne ways the coolant temp everytime i pull maxes out what should i do or try to do to get my temps a lil lower i was told by someone i dont want to name names but a reputable name to take my thermostat out or gut it and leave the washer in for a restriction is that going to help?????? looking for ny advice or ideas thanks jeremy snow

gutting your thermostat would work some. i would recommend cutting two blades off of the water pump. the water pump is ran by the serpentine belt so when you increase the rpm from 2500 max rpm to 4500 max rpm it speeds the pump up and causes excessive pressure
