Is .025 too much? Just got the engine back from the machine shop and that seems a little high from what I've been told.

Are you talking about the piston protrusion above the deck? If so, 25 thou is fine

The Cummins spec is anywhere from .016 to .036 depending on Pistons and grade of head gasket.

Sorry. I meant protrusion. New Mahle pistons, Haisley firering kit. Thanks.

Man, Jarred is gonna have the hot set up once its back together.

I was wondering too. Not sure exactly what most builders want on the actual piston to vavle clearance when using the "play dough" method, but our gasser engines we have built we usually want no less than .080" to make up for any valve float.

What is the best way to measure piston protrusion? And what is the thickness on a stock cummins gasket once compressed?
