Quick nv4500 counter shaft question

I'm swapping a 4wd nv4500 into my 2wd truck. I bought the updated 31 spline main shaft and the tail housing. The trans came out of a 97 truck. It blew 3rd gear so I'm getting a new counter shaft and gear. My question is do I order a 97+ counter shaft or a 96- countershaft. I was thinking since the trans was a 97 I would have to order that one. I just wanted to double check. Thanks for the help.

if it came out of a 97 truck why would you want to order a 96 and below one. IMO i would order the one that belongs in there.

Order the appropriate shaft. There is an obvious difference in gear length. Whoever sells you the shaft should know this.
