So it's time to do a rebuild on the old girl. I don't know what's in it for parts right now but I'm not going to take chances and I'm going to be doing a mild/cost effective build to support my mild upgrades to the truck.

What I'm hoping for is for those of you who have experience building a 47re to chime in and hopefully point out something I may miss. I know there is tonnes of info on it, and I have read the threads many many times but I must get overwhelmed easily because that's what happens.

The trucks a 98 with a 47re, has a he351cw, 215 injectors, #8 plate, 024 delivery valves, 4k GSK, rack plug, timing changes regularly as I like to play with it and try and find a sweet spot. Future plans include some 5x14s and an HT3B under the 351 but that's not present and could never happen.

I use the truck as any 22 year old would, I like to show off sometimes(racing/burnouts/etc.) but not all the time. I do consider myself to have a heavy foot. I tow no more that 8k pounds and even thats rare.

So now that you have some background, here's my list so far.

-Pro king delux rebuild kit(was a good deal)
-hopefully I can find the pressure and reaction plates I need to add some clutches.(anyone help with these?)
- transgo tfod hd-2 shift kit
-sonnax accumulator piston
-sonnax 2nd gear super hold servo kit
-billet 3.8 apply lever,band strut,wedge

What would you guys change/what am I missing?

Can anyone help me out with the 48re reaction plate for the od brake clutch pack and a forward drum pressure plate for the direct pack?

Thanks guys

TRE, garmon, and suncoast are also good options to consider. I have a TRE build in my truck and I love it. After 20k miles of having the piss beat out of it at 700+hp it still looked brand new inside.

Just buy a Goerend kit and forget that you made a parts list.

Yep pick up a Goerend VB and the parts from him for the rebuild. The knowledge and customer service will be worth it, as well as a great shiifting VB. Some folks are still working on holding the power, Goerend is past that, and perfecting the shifts.

I hear what you are saying but that's just out of the question right now. If I'm going to spend 1000 on the internals I will be putting a triple disk and billet shafts in as well which is out of the budget range. I am more or less looking for input from those guys like big blue who have built a budget trans that's holding up great, no offence meant but I guess I'm just not in the crowd who can play with the big dogs and buy a box kit and drop 5k on my trans...

The key to making a low budget tranny take power is line pressure. I would think that a ton of pressure would make for a rather harsh shifting dd tranny. $.02

Where in my previous post did I tell you to spend $5000? I gave you a time saving alternative that's a sure fire fix, your budget will thank me later.

you can get a good suncoast kit for around 500 bucks. or call dave and talk to him. I have a goerend unit and love it. The only way a trans is gunna cost you 5000 bucks is if you're having someone else build it for you. it doersnt hurt to call and get a price quote on the parts you need. Dave is very knowledgeable and very customer friendly. 1-563-778-2719 is his shop.

After Finding a guy local that can build the dodge trans for $600 and stand behind anything i do to it i will never pay $5000

It doesn't take much coin to mod the VB to make them hold HP. The trick is getting the silky smooth shifts at light throttle, followed by the firm shifts that get the truck moving.

Tell us the whole story on the $600. He honor that for a 800HP truck? What most don't realize is the cheap rebuilders just fix what is broken, put in upgraded parts for extra, reusing inputs etc. A Goerend trans comes with all sorts of new parts, usually a new input(even if your not putting a billet in it) Basically it is a reman unit.

I was not meaning any offence by anything I have said, my numbers may be inflated, but my point is, I have a rebuild kit with clutches steels, seals, bands, I am going to pull my trans down and see what it has. It's supposed to be a built unit so we will see, I'm going to do my minor upgrades for now, no it won't be bullitproof but I'll feel better knowing I've done it before when I do throw the cash at it to make it bullitproof. Thanks for your input guys, it's appreciated as always and I'm sorry of I was mis-understood.

You're shedding an aweful lot of light on what you can do to a tranny. LOL
Sorry my bad $600 was labor He will put any billet shafts, all sonnex parts

He does way more than just valve body work.Remachines O.D. to a 5 clutch setup,
all Sonnex upgrades and he has some othe stuff he does not disclose.
He builds the tranny to what you intend on doing with it.
I have rode in a truck with a fully built Goerend Trans and it drove nice but i cant see $4k difference in hs trans v.s. my guy. I am Not bashing I just think there is alot of price gouging$.02

Does he put new bearings in it? New input shaft? Basically does he rebuild it or remanufacture it? There is a difference.

new bearing yes, not unless specified on the input
I dont see the point in replacing the input unless the is a problem with it.
Thats almost like saying everytime you change a clutch you change the input.

$600 is $100 per hour for 6 hours which is actually very close to the average time spent in rebuilding a transmission. It's also a very fair price.
Before you say someone is price gouging maybe you need to do some homework. Make a list here of every billet part and other parts that you intend to have installed in your transmission followed by your cost, don't forget to add shipping and time spent on the phone tracking down each part. I'll be waiting to see how cheap your trans rebuild actually is, as will alot of others. Please do not disappoint us!
